911爆料网 freshman Jeffrey Hamilton of Foley has been named the first USA Board of Trustees Scholar.
The announcement was made at the USA Board of Trustees meeting on Friday, Sept. 12, where Hamilton was recognized by Chair Pro Tempore Dr. Steven Furr and other members of the Board.
鈥淚鈥檇 like to extend a personal thank you to the members of the Board of Trustees for allowing me to prove my academic merit,鈥 Hamilton said.
The USA Board of Trustees Scholars program was created to recognize the most academically talented student in each incoming freshman class. Each recipient is awarded a financial scholarship as a supplement to other scholarships or awards.
Hamilton, with an ACT score of 35, was a National Merit Semifinalist. He entered the University with a full semester of credit hours because of completed Advance Placement classes. His academic focus is in science and math coursework.
鈥淭his scholarship will carry the highest honor of any scholarship available, which is a reflection of the commitment Board members have for USA,鈥 Furr said when the program was announced earlier this year. 鈥淚t is both an honor and a privilege to serve the University. We wanted to show our gratitude by making this investment.鈥
Once the program is completely phased in, there will be four USA Board of Trustees Scholars at any one time, representing each class of undergraduate students. The selection is based on ACT/SAT score, and, if needed, GPA on a 4.0 scale followed by rigor of high school coursework.
The scholarship serves as a supplement to any other scholarships awarded, and, if total scholarships exceed the cost of tuition, may be used for study abroad, research or other programs that enhance a student鈥檚 education.
Hamilton鈥檚 USA Board of Trustees Scholar award is on top of his Presidential Scholarship for a four-year total of $56,500.
