Jags' Football Coach Major Applewhite To Speak In Fairhope

The next USA by the Bay Eastern Shore Speaker Series event will feature University of South Alabama Jaguars Head Football Coach Major Applewhite. This free event will be held Thursday, July 11 at 5:30 p.m at the USA Baldwin County Campus in Fairhope - 111 St James Avenue. Seating is limited. RSVP at SouthAlabama.edu/SpeakerSeries.
After serving as the team's offensive coordinator for the past three seasons, Applewhite became the fourth head coach in USA football history in January 2024. Get to know Coach Applewhite and hear about his vision for the program.
Applewhite was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and earned a bachelor's degree in sport management from the University of Texas. He played quarterback at Texas for four seasons. He was named Big 12 Freshman of the Year and the league's Co-Offensive Player of the Year in 1999. In his final appearance for the Longhorns, he was named Most Valuable Player of the Holiday Bowl.
Applewhite's coaching experience includes quarterbacks coach at Syracuse University, offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Rice University, various roles at Texas, head coach at University of Houston, analyst on Nick Saban's staff at the University of Alabama, offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at the University of South Alabama.
